Flowers in a Funeral

Tears watering the flowers you receive,
Memories flooding the minds of the mourners,
Confusion in the eyes of the close.

Husbands burying wives,
Children burying parents,
What has life come to ?

My mind's blank except for the words  "no, no, no"   replaying over and over in my head, begging for all this to be a dream.
A nightmare which has escaped my sleep and seeps into reality -
One which kept me awake for a  hundred thousand nights has decided to keep me awake for a  hundred thousand more.

You might be  going six feet  under but I wish you'd fly high above
The smile you  gave yesterday, the one that makes the stars go dim - has collapsed into a frown now,
the laughter you once brought now only makes me writhe in pain.

The role of flowers in a funeral is still a mystery to me but the way the tears rolled  cascaded down my cheeks and onto the flowers made me wonder if they make up for the ugliness of death.
you lay there unrecognizable ... the only thing keeping me together is the belief that this was the last battle...

You fought hard, fighter.
Revel in your glory.
